We’re going wild for the new mafi Wild collection! The recently refurbished Restaurant Franz in Bergheim, Austria offers the first glimpse of mafi Wild in application. Here, mafi Oak Wild Heavily Brushed Natural Oil is laid across 225m2 of the floor space.
mafi Oak Wild enhances the natural irregularity of wood to create a modern and dynamic floor, the large dark knots and deep cracks are brought to life in vivid black.
The task for architect Franz Kirchmayr was to create a contemporary meeting place whilst keeping with the real village feel of its location. The mafi philosophy of handcrafted and high quality natural timber floors aligned perfectly with the intention of this space.
“In these times of a throw-away society, real handcrafted products are being revived. The restaurant Franz in Bergheim, has stood for the best quality for seven generations and has been a popular spot for locals and guests for decades. This should also be conveyed by our new premises”, explain Silvia and Franz Gmachl.
The vibe is cool and cosy all at once. The space has a modern edge, yet mafi Oak on the walls, ceilings and floors brings a warm and familiar feel.
A natural floor with a modern take, mafi Oak Wild is a focal point as the eye explores the movement of the grain and cracks lines.
The greenery and Oak Wild floors are presented like art. “We are completely satisfied with the conversion. It is really remarkable how often people comment on the spectacular floor,” says Franz Gmachl.
The character of the boards can be felt underfoot through textural grooves. The heavily brushed finish can be enhanced with a choice of white, grey or natural oil.
The robust and hardwearing nature of mafi timber, as well as the natural ability of wood to absorb sound, benefits a busy space like Restaurant Franz.
Oak wild is another example of how mafi floorboards are created to a simple but clear philosophy.
The Wild Collection is available in Oak, Oak Vulcano and Fir wood. We can’t wait to see more projects using this wild floor!
